Rangers 11, Padres 0
- Well, for one day, anyway, the Rangers are good again. I’m not terribly optimistic they’ll be in serious playoff contention come August and September, but at least for today we can enjoy the team being really good and stomping on someone.
- How about that A.J. Griffin, huh? A complete game shutout, 4 hits, 4 Ks, 1 walk. Now sporting a 2.45 ERA on the season. Not bad for a guy signed to a minor league deal last season. As a fifth guy/swingman/depth option, you can do a whole, whole lot worse.
- The bats, which had been somnolent for days, exploded against veteran righthander Jered Weaver. Everyone had a hit except Carlos Gomez (who had two walks) and Griffin (who drew a walk). A couple of hits for Rougned Odor, a home run in 5 at bats for Ryan Rua, a big early two-run double for Nomar Mazara, a Three True Outcome hattrick for Joey Gallo as part of a 2 for 4 day that included one of the highest hit home runs you’ll ever see...
- The bullpen got rested, the team had a laugher to end a rough road trip, and we get baseball back in Arlington tomorrow. Baseball is fun again.
