The San Antonio Missions of the AA Texas League will be moving to Amarillo for the 2019 season, as part of a series of moves by the Elmore Sports Group that likely will result in the Rangers’ AAA affiliate being in San Antonio.
The Elmore Group also owns the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, which is currently a Milwaukee Brewers affiliate. Colorado Springs is viewed as a less-than-desirable AAA affiliate, due to the impact of the high altitude on play there, and so a short-season A Pioneer League team will be moved to Colorado Springs, with Elmore Group relocating the AAA affiliate to San Antonio.
The Rangers currently have a deal with Round Rock, but the Express is owned by Nolan Ryan, who is now part of the Astros’ organization. The expectation is that San Antonio will end up being the Rangers AAA affiliate, with the Express switching over to the Astros.
