The Texas Rangers have placed lefthanded pitcher Martin Perez on the disabled list with a broken right thumb, and have recalled outfielder Drew Robinson to take his place on the active roster.

Robinson likely is going to be hanging out in New York for the weekend and then heading back to AAA, as Cole Hamels is slated to be activated on Monday to start against Cleveland, and Robinson will presumably be sent down then.

Robinson gives the Rangers a four man bench for the weekend, though, while Perez will likely miss just one start after breaking the tip of the thumb on his non-throwing hand. Perez had expressed a desire to make his next scheduled start, but the team apparently has opted to err on the side of caution.
