Texas Rangers infielder Joey Gallo is out of the lineup for the second straight day today, and he apparently isn't even at the park, as the beats are reporting that Gallo has returned to Arlington to have his right hamstring evaluated.
Gallo has apparently been dealing with the hamstring issue for over a week, which helps explain the decision to bring up Drew Robinson after Friday’s game. The tam apparently expects Gallo to re-join the team on Monday in Cleveland.
Cole Hamels is to be activated from the disabled list on Monday, and it wouldn't be surprising to see Gallo go to the ten day d.l. to open up a spot for Hamels. The new shorter disabled list means Gallo would just miss another week, and the team may want to err on the side of caution with him, rather than risk having it get aggravated and potentially sideline him for longer.
The downside to putting Gallo on the shelf now, though, is that he's one of the team’s better players, and the team is in the midst of a stretch of 20 games in 20 days where they are fighting to stay in the playoff race.
