Andrew Cashner activated, Preston Claiborne optioned

The Rangers have activated pitcher Andrew Cashner from the disabled list

MLB: Texas Rangers at Houston Astros Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Texas Rangers pitcher Andrew Cashner has been activated from the 10 day disabled list, and will start against the Cleveland Indians today. To make room for him on the active roster, the Rangers have optioned relief pitcher Preston Claiborne.

Cashner’s return from a back issue was expected, and gets the Rangers closer to a their regular rotation, as they now await the return of Martin Perez, who has a broken thumb on his non-throwing hand. Claiborne’s contract was purchased last week, as the Rangers sought to fortify their bullpen, and him being sent down likely is as much a product of him having options as anything else.
