Keith Law has released his midseason top 50 prospect list, and once again, the Texas Rangers have one prospect make the cut -- outfielder Leody Taveras, who is at #24. Law praises Taveras holding his own and making good contact as the second-youngest regular in the South Atlantic League.
Law joins Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus in having Taveras in the upper portion of recent midseason prospect lists. Given how the season has gone in the minors for Texas, it is likely Taveras is the only Ranger prospect who will appear on offseason top 100 lists, although Cole Ragans could possibly end up sneaking into the back end on some of them.
UPDATE — Interestingly, in his chat today, Law lists Ronald Guzman as someone considered for the top 50 that didn’t make it.
