MLB Trade Rumors: Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish would be the best starting pitcher on the trade market, should the Rangers decide to sell, but Jerry Crasnick says the Rangers are “aiming extremely high” if they do decide to deal Darvish. Crasnick also says Jon Daniels is going to wait as long as possible before pulling the trigger, at least in part, one would assume, because he doesn’t want to sell now, only to see the team start winning and get back in the race by July 31.
Crasnick’s saying the Rangers are testing the market is consistent with the other reports we talked about earlier today, with the consensus being the Rangers are laying the groundwork and getting a sense for the market should they decide to sell.
Possibly complicating matters is that Jim Bowden says Darvish has a limited no-trade clause, with Boston, the Cubs, the Rockies and the Indians being the contenders this year who are on it. I suspect Texas wants to make a deal without the machinations of having to also negotiate with Darvish on his no-trade.
