Texas Rangers trades: Jeremy Jeffress has been traded by the Texas Rangers to the Milwaukee Brewers, per reports on the interwebs. Jeffress, of course, was traded by the Brewers to the Rangers one year ago today in the ill-fated deal that sent Lewis Brinson, Luis Ortiz and Ryan Cordell to Milwaukee for Jeffress and Jonathan Lucroy.
Lucroy was shipped out to Colorado for a player to be named later, and Jeffress is likely bringing the Rangers only a nominal return. He missed a month last season after having to go to rehab, and has been a disaster for Texas this season. I suspect that the front office was just tired of seeing Jeffress and Lucroy here, and were ready to move on from them.
UPDATE — The Rangers have received RH reliever Tayler Scott from Milwaukee for Jeffress. Scott, 25, is a South African who was the Cubs' fifth round pick in 2011. He was pitching in Indy ball last year. Scott is having a nice year in AA, but can be a free agent after the season if he is not added to the 40 man roster by year end.
The 40 man roster now stands at 37, and the Rangers have two empty spots on their 25 man roster with Jeffress and Lucroy traded.
