The Texas Rangers officially added pitcher Jhan Marinez, who was claimed on waivers yesterday, to the active roster before Friday's game against the Astros. To make room for him on the 25 man roster, Tyler Smith was optioned to AAA Round Rock.
Marinez is out of options, and so will probably stick on the active roster through the end of the season as the Rangers eyeball him and decide if he is worth keeping around for 2018. Smith was called up on Wednesday, replacing Nick Martinez on the active roster for no reason that was clear to me.
Another move will come on Saturday, when Tyson Ross is activated from the disabled list. I expect Ryan Rua, who hasn't played since being called up on July 31, to be the roster casualty.
