57-60 - Odor, Perez star in Rangers 6-2 series opening win over Detroit

The only tipping Marteen is doing these days is to the clubhouse attendants

MLB: Detroit Tigers at Texas Rangers Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

I feel like if the Rangers do actually challenge for a Wild Card spot, they need Martin Perez to be good. They can’t get by with Perez tipping pitches and having blowup innings anymore. Not when he’s essentially the No. 3 starter now.

Perez was good in his last starter against the Mets when he went eight innings and allowed a run against the Mets.

Tonight, he allowed a two-run home run in the first inning to Justin Upton and I could feel the collective eye rolling of Rangers fans who’d seen it before from ‘Teen. Afterwards, however, Perez didn’t allow another run over five more innings and left the game with a 6-2 lead in an eventual 6-2 win by Texas over the Tigers.

Keep being good, Marteen.

Also, Drew Robinson made one of the Rusty Greeringest catches I’ve seen in awhile. It was pretty neat:

Also Pt. 2: Ricky Rodriguez made his MLB debut and threw a scoreless inning of relief and while striking out the first two hitters he faced. This is after no one in the world knew who Ricky Rodriguez was like a week ago.

Player of the Game: Rougned Odor went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored and was basically a menace on the bases all night including two stolen bases. That was 2015 ALDS Rougned Odor tonight.

Up Next: The Rangers will look to grab another series win but will need to beat Justin Verlander to do so. Texas will counter with A.J. Griffin with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm CT.
