Texas Rangers pitcher Jake Diekman goes out on a rehab assignment today, and is scheduled to throw 15 pitches for the AA Frisco Roughriders.

Diekman has spent the entire season on the disabled list, having undergone three surgeries since the winter to address chronic ulcerative colitis problems. As part of that, he has come out with a line of “Gut It Out” t-shirts, the proceeds from which go to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.

Diekman had been a big part of the Rangers’ bullpen since coming to Texas in the trade with Philadelphia that also brought Cole Hamels to Texas, and his power lefty arm has been missed this year.

No exact timetable on when Diekman will be back on the major league roster, but one would think that he would at least be activated by September 1, when rosters expand.
