Rua, Gardewine up, Bush d.l.d, Gosselin down

The Texas Rangers have recalled infielder/outfielder Ryan Rua from AAA Round Rock, and have purchased the contract of relief pitcher Nick Gardewine. To make room on the active roster, Matt Bush has been placed on the 10 day disabled list with a right knee sprain, and Phil Gosselin has been optioned.

My assumption is that Gallo will be on the shelf for a day or two (he's out of the lineup today), and in his absence, Drew Robinson and Rua (who is in the lineup today) will split time. Gallo was in the concussion protocol, but since he is not on the d.l., I'm going to assume he should be back soon. Gosselin, who was called up to be a warm body on the bench, heads back to AAA, with Robinson resuming utility infielder duties.

Bush, meanwhile, is out until rosters expand in September due to the knee issue. No word that I've seen (yet) in the severity of the MCL sprain. Gardewine, we talked about earlier today, and he joins Austin Bibens-Dirkx, Ricky Rodriguez, Jhan Marinez, and Jason Grilli on the list of relief pitchers we weren't expecting to see on the active roster in late August.

Oh, and since I'm at it, here's the lineup for today:

DeShields — CF

Choo — DH

Elvis — SS

Beltre — 3B

Mazara — RF

Napoli — 1B

Odor — 2B

Rua — LF

Chirinos — C

Cole Hamels is pitching against Tyler Skaggs.
