Video: Willie Calhoun home run. The prize from the Yu Darvish trade was LF/DH Willie Calhoun, though I think the proper designation for him is “hitter” Willie Calhoun. Calhoun has a combined .297/.355/.575 slash line between AAA Oklahoma City and AAA Round Rock this year, and has a good chance of being in the Texas Rangers’ lineup come 2018.
Calhoun probably slots somewhere in the 2-5 range in the Rangers system, depending on how you feel about Ronald Guzman, Cole Ragans, and the Rangers’ 2017 draftees. He joins Joey Gallo and Rougned Odor in having very unusual profiles that make them very hard to comp, but everyone seems to agree he will hit, and hit a lot.
