For the last time this year, the Rangers will take on the Mariners in Seattle. After the Rangers had three taken from them in Arlington just a week ago, they’ll need a sweep if they really want to stay in the wild card hunt and actually make a dent in it.
This is the last team the Rangers face where they would truly hold their postseason fate in their own hands.
But it’s a long shot.
Texas will face Mike Leake, Felix Hernandez, and James Paxton. Leake is the only pitcher that went more than five innings the last time the Rangers faced them. Leake went 5.2 while both Hernandez and Paxton only went 3.2 innings.
The Rangers got one run each off Hernandez and Leake when they faced them a week ago. Texas faced Paxton last time in June and got seven runs off seven hits.
Perez, Cashner, and Hamels will make the start for Texas.
Mariners are 11-5 against the Rangers this year, 5-1 at Safeco.
