As we sit here and contemplate the last couple of weeks of the season, I thought it might be interesting to take a look at the numbers for the Rangers hitters in the second half of the season. And really, the offense has been, overall, fine in the second half.
What jumps out right away is that Joey Gallo has been mashing...even with the power dropoff in September, Gallo has been a driving force for the Ranger offense since the break. Adrian Beltre has been doing Adrian Beltre things, Robinson Chirinos has continued to be hot, and Elvis Andrus has continued to be the new and improved Elvis Andrus. Delino DeShields has also had a strong second half.
On the downside...well, the three big drains on the offense in the first half were Rougned Odor, Jonathan Lucroy and Mike Napoli, and that has continued into the second half. Lucroy is gone after a bad 12 games, Odor has been bad still, and Napoli hasn’t been much better. Nomar Mazara has also disappointed in the second half.
Anyway...there’s good and there’s bad. Its been roughly a league-average offense. They need more production from second base and first base. And Joey Gallo is pretty awesome.
