Jose Trevino wins gold glove

Frisco catcher Jose Trevino has won his second consecutive minor league gold glove at catcher

MLB: Spring Training-Texas Rangers at Arizona Diamondbacks Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

Texas Rangers catcher Jose Trevino has been named the minor league gold glove winner at catcher, Rawlings announced today. This is the second consecutive year for Trevino to win the award.

Trevino spent the 2017 season at AA Frisco, and while he had an up and down season with the bat, he earned universal praise both his defense, and particularly for his game calling and leadership behind the plate. Trevino is Rule 5 eligible after this season, and seems like a lock to be added to the 40 man roster after this season.

Trevino will have a major league career because of his glove, with the question being whether he's a glove-first backup who doesn't hit, or whether the bat advances enough that he can be a starter in the majors at some point.

In any case, this is a nice honor for Trevino, and a tribute to the reputation his garnering around the game.
