Adrian Beltre may be done for the season

Third baseman Adrian Beltre, who returned well ahead of schedule this month from a hamstring strain, may miss the rest of the year

Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre says he may not play again this season, and will discuss the issue with Jeff Banister and Jon Daniels today, per the beat guys on Twitter.

Beltre has battled injuries throughout the season, and suffered a hamstring strain on August 31 that was expected to keep him out of the remainder of the regular season. Beltre returned as a DH on September 13, however, and even made it back on the field at third base for yesterday’s game.

With the team now officially eliminated from contention, however, there’s no need for Beltre to continue to push himself to play through pain. The Rangers have Willie Calhoun, Drew Robinson, Will Middlebrooks and Ryan Rua all up, and the final five games can be used to give them some at bats and take a look at them as potential 2018 contributors.

My guess is that Beltre won’t play again this year, but with Adrian Beltre, you can never say for sure...
