70-69 - Rangers let doubleheader finale slip away against Braves

Rangers fall 5-4 to Braves in second half of doubleheader

MLB: Game Two-Texas Rangers at Atlanta Braves Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

The Rangers could have used some of those 12 runs from earlier in the day for the nightcap. Instead, four runs was all Texas could muster in the second half of the doubleheader and that wasn’t enough to rally past the Braves after Atlanta scored all five of their runs in a sloppy second inning.

Texas went 7-for-11 with runners in scoring position in the first game of the doubleheader but then went 0-for-9 with their opportunities in the this one.

Another series win for Texas, but another opportunity missed against a team that they should beat. With a win, the Rangers would have been within a single game of a playoff spot. Texas’ll have to settle for a two game deficit to Minnesota with three weeks to go.

At least the Angels were finally forced to swallow the bitter pill of getting beaten by the A’s today.

Player of the Game: Will Middlebrooks became the first player to ever hit two pinch hit triples in both games of a doubleheader. Welcome to the record books, Will!

Up Next: The Rangers have tomorrow off before opening up a series at The Ballpark against the Yankees in the final series against teams from outside of the AL West this season.
