Texas Rangers outfielder Nomar Mazara left yesterday’s game two in the sixth inning with a sore left quad, which reportedly has been bothering him since Sunday.
Mazara didn’t play in game one of yesterday’s doubleheader — a 12-8 thumping of the Braves — as Jeff Banister was apparently looking to try to be cautious with Mazara. The Rangers have a day off today, and the hope seems to be that Mazara will be ready to go when the Rangers start their weekend series at home against the Yankees on Friday.
With the expanded rosters, the Rangers have some additional options available if Mazara has to miss a couple of games -- Drew Robinson gives the team a lefthanded corner outfield bat that can fill in, while Ryan Rua, who is likely to be recalled for tomorrow’s game, since his ten day waiting period since being optioned will have run by then, is a righty option.
We could also potentially see Jeff Banister use Mazara more often at DH in the coming days, with Shin-Soo Choo playing right field instead.
