Texas Rangers rumors: Yu Darvish, free agent pitcher, has the Rangers as one of five teams he is currently considering, according to Jeff Wilson. Along with the Rangers, Darvish is considering the Houston Astros, Minnesota Twins, Chicago Cubs, and New York Yankees.
Wilson’s piece appears to lament the Rangers lack of willingness to pony up to pay for Darvish, saying that if all things were equal, Darvish would want to return to play for Texas going forward. While the Rangers and Darvish both have been widely indicated to have mutual interest in a reunion, the story has consistently been that what Darvish wants, and likely will get, is more than what the Rangers want to pay.
I’m actually surprised that it is January 10 -- Ben’s birthday, if y’all want to with him happy birthday — and Darvish hasn’t signed. Not just that Darvish hasn’t signed, but none of the tier one and tier two starting pitchers -- Darvish, Jake Arrieta, Lance Lynn, and Alex Cobb -- have signed. And there still isn’t much in the way of rumors, talk, discussion, etc. that has indicated any agreements are looming, what sort of numbers have been discussed or offered back and forth (other than the 3 year, $42 million offer to Alex Cobb that the Cubs reportedly made) about these pitchers. Its been a sort of black box, and has contributed to our boring offseason.
