Texas Rangers rumors: Carlos Gomez is a free agent after playing 2017 on a one year deal with the Rangers, and there has been talk that Gomez and the Rangers have mutual interest in a reunion for 2018. So it should be no surprise that, per Evan Grant, Gomez met with the Rangers’ front office this morning.

Evan says Gomez chartered a helicopter to fly him to where the Rangers brass was meeting near where the team will be breaking ground on a new academy in the Dominican Republic, and talked to, among other, Jon Daniels and owner Ray Davis about his desire to return to Texas.

Gomez dealt with some injuries last year, but still put up a .255/.340/.462 slash line, and is generally considered a better defensive center fielder than Delino DeShields, who is currently the primary center fielder on the depth chart. The Rangers have indicated their primary interest the rest of the offseason is upgrading the pitching staff, but Daniels has also said improving the defense is something the Rangers would like to do, and putting Gomez in center field, with Delino DeShields moving to left field (or splitting time in left field with Willie Calhoun), would accomplish that, while also getting a nice righthanded bat in the lineup.
