MLB Rumors: Dusty Wathan, third base coach for the Philadelphia Phillies, will interview with the Texas Rangers this week for their vacant managerial job, per Jim Salisbury out of Philadelphia. The 45 year old Wathan is a former minor league manager in the Phillies system who interviewed for their managerial job last year, and ended up joining manager Gabe Kapler’s staff in 2018.
Wathan’s is a name that has been prominently mentioned as a candidate for the Rangers during this process. He would join Joe Girardi, Brandon Hyde, Joe Espada and Jayce Tingler as candidates who the Rangers have interviewed so far. Mark DeRosa reportedly declined an interview opportunity with the Rangers, preferring to stick with his job with the MLB Network.
