Anthony Iapoce leaving Texas Rangers for Chicago Cubs

Multiple reports indicate hitting coach Anthony Iapoce is leaving the Texas Rangers to take the same position with the Chicago Cubs

Anthony Iapoce, who has been the Texas Rangers’ hitting coach since 2016, is leaving the Rangers to join the Chicago Cubs as their hitting coach, per multiple reports. Iapoce had been hired away from the Cubs by the Rangers when he came to Texas.

The Cubs let their hitting coach, Chili Davis, go after the were eliminated from the playoffs this year. The Rangers, meanwhile, have already cut ties with assistant hitting coach Justin Mashore. With the managerial situation in flux, the Rangers are allowing their current coaches to explore other opportunities that are available, since the new manager will likely have some input on the staff. Iapoce is someone that I think the Rangers would have preferred to keep, but going back to his previous organization, which is currently a much better team with a highly regarded manager already in place, would make it tough for them to keep him around.

The Rangers now have two hitting coach positions to fill, and may have other coaching hires to make once a new manager is hired and decisions are made as to who to keep from the current staff.
