Brad Ausmus named manager of Los Angeles Angels

The Angels have hired Brad Ausmus to replace Mike Scioscia as the team’s manager

The Los Angeles Anaheim Angels have named Brad Ausmus as their new manager, replacing long-time manager Mike Scioscia, who was not brought back after the 2018 season. Ausmus, like Scioscia, was a long-time major league catcher with a reputation for being a strong defender and working well with pitchers.

Ausmus spent the 2018 season in the front office as a special assistant to general manager Billy Eppler. Ausmus was manager of the Detroit Tigers from 2014-17, finishing first in the division in 2014, but also finishing last in the division twice. The knock on Ausmus in Detroit was he was a bit too traditional in his strategy and decision-making. We shall see if, at the helm of Anaheim, that continues to be the case, or if he will adapt to a more forward-thinking way of operating.
