Texas Rangers rumors: Derek Shelton, bench coach for the Minnesota Twins and a candidate for their manager job (that ultimately went to Rocco Baldelli), will interview with the Texas Rangers for the Rangers’ vacant manager job, per Evan Grant.

Shelton, 48, is a former minor league catcher and minor league manager in the Yankees system, who was the hitting coach for the Cleveland Indians from 2005-09, and then for the Tampa Bay Rays from 2010-16. After being let go by the Rays, Shelton spent 2017 with the Toronto Blue Jays, then was hired by the Twins to be their bench coach for the 2018 season.

Shelton would be the 10th or 11th candidate interviewed by the Rangers, and they are still expected to talk to one or two other candidates, with Chris Woodward from the Dodgers and Ron Roenicke from the Red Sox being mentioned as potential interviewees.
