The Texas Rangers will not be bringing Doug Brocail back as pitching coach in 2019, per multiple reports. Brocail had been the team’s pitching coach since the 2016 season.
Brocail, a former major league pitcher who spent a season with the Rangers, and a former pitching coach for the Astros, was a lightning rod for criticism among fans who were frustrated with the team’s pitching issues the last few seasons. I didn’t have a strong opinion about Brocail one way or the other, though it isn’t surprising that he’s being replaced.
Per Jeff Wilson, Steve Buechele is also not returning to the Rangers coaching staff. Don Wakamatsu, Tony Beasley and Jayce Tingler will be returning to the coaching staff, while we are still awaiting news on Hector Ortiz and Dan Warthen.
