The Texas Rangers have hired Julio Rangel as the team’s new pitching coach, the team announced today. Rangel was the minor league pitching coordinate for the San Francisco Giants last year, and was with the Cleveland Indians for eleven seasons before that.

Rangel, 43, is a native of Panama who was a minor league pitcher in the late 90s and early aughts. He was the Lower Level Pitching Coordinator for the Indians from 2007-15, and was the Assistant Field Coordinator from 2016-17 for the Indians. He left the Indians to become the Pitching Coordinator for the San Francisco Giants in 2018, where he worked under David Bell, who the Rangers interviewed for their vacant managerial job.

I had never heard of Rangel before he was announced as being hired by the Rangers, so I have no opinion about him.
