Rougned Odor Gold Glove finalist, but not winner

Rougned Odor was one of three finalists for the A.L. Gold Glove Award, which went to former Ranger Ian Kinsler

MLB: Detroit Tigers at Texas Rangers Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers had a lone finalist among the American League Gold Glove nominees — Rougned Odor at second base. Odor just making the three finalists was quite noteworthy, as his defense has come under criticism in the past, and it is an area he has worked hard to improve — with noticeable results.

However, with the Gold Glove winners being announced today, it was announced that former Ranger Ian Kinsler, rather than Odor, was the winner. Congratulations to Kinsler, who picks up his second Gold Glove at the position, and who has been a quality defensive second baseman over the course of his career.

Odor had a +10 DRS and a +6.9 UZR in 1084 innings at second base this year, while Kinsler was at +10 DRS and +9.7 UZR in 1091 innings, so they were pretty close to equal by those measures overall in 2018.
