Don Wakamatsu will be part of the Texas Rangers 2019 coaching staff, according to T.R. Sullivan on Twitter. While Sullivan doesn’t identify the role Wakamatsu will have, it stands to reason that, as a former major league manager who was the team’s bench coach in 2018 before taking over as interim manager late in the season, he will be the bench coach for first time manager Chris Woodward.
Wakamatsu was interviewed by the Rangers as a potential manager candidate, as was Jayce Tingler, who it had previously been announced would be part of the 2019 coaching staff. Tony Beasley also appears to be likely to return, though no official announcement has been made. The rest of the coaching staff’s future is uncertain, and it may we’ll be that Woodward and the Rangers will make changes in those other positions.
