2019 MLB Mock Draft: MLB Pipeline has followed up their initial top 50 prospect list for the 2019 MLB Draft with a very early mock draft (for the top 10 picks, anyway), and, of course, they have the Texas Rangers going with a prep outfielder at #8.
It is worth noting that the prep outfielder that they mock to the Rangers, however, is lefthanded hitter Riley Greene from Oviedo, Florida, who they say is arguably the best pure hitter in the draft. Greene plays center field now, but profiles most likely as a corner outfielder as he fills out, and has both hit and power potential.
The player I have suggested keeping an eye on is Carter Stewart, who was selected by the Atlanta Braves at #8 in the 2018 draft out of a high school in Georgia, but who didn’t sign, and is pitching at a junior college now, making him draft eligible again in 2019. Stewart’s deal with the Braves fell apart due to medical issues, and is the subject of a grievance, so while we are assuming the Braves will get a compensatory pick at #9, that could end up not happening, depending on how the grievance plays out.
