Keith Law’s Texas Rangers top 10 prospect list

Keith Law runs down his A.L. West organization reports, including his top 10 Texas Rangers prospects

Keith Law’s Texas Rangers top prospect list is out as part of his rundown of the farm systems of the American League West teams, and Leody Taveras and Willie Calhoun are, as one would expect, the top two prospects on the list. Law also has Bubba Thompson at #3, which is the highest I’ve seen the Rangers’ top draft pick in 2017 ranked, while also having Josh Morgan in his top 10, which is higher than you’ll see Morgan in most rankings.

Law also did a chat session on Wednesday which included mentions of Joe Palumbo and Cole Ragans. Both in his chat and in his A.L. West write-up, Law suggests you could see Ragans move up dramatically in the MLB prospect rankings if he throws more strikes. Ragans struck out an impressive 87 batters in 57.1 IP in short-season A last year -- over one-third of the batters he faced -- but also walked 35 batters, which is a bit alarming. Ragans is someone I thought we could see on the back-end of some top 100 lists this year, but the command issues appear to have cost him, as he hasn’t cracked any of the major lists.
