The Fangraphs top 100 prospect list is out today, and the Texas Rangers have placed three players in the top 100, with Willie Calhoun being the top Ranger on their list.
Calhoun, the LF/DH acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Yu Darvish trade, is ranked at #46 on the Fangraphs list. Leody Taveras, the Rangers’ teenage center fielder who spent the 2017 season in low-A Hickory, and the player who is generally viewed as the consensus top Ranger prospect, comes in at #86, which is about as low as I’ve seen Taveras ranked anywhere this offseason.
The third Ranger prospect to make the cut is 2016 first round draft pick Cole Ragans. Ragans, a lefthanded pitcher who spent 2017 with short-season A Spokane, is #96 on the Fangraphs list.
You can compare and contrast the Fangraphs list with the Baseball Prospectus top 101 list, which also came out today, and which features four Rangers prospects.
