7-13 - Inconsistent Hamels, Rangers fall to Rays 4-2

After scoring seven runs yesterday, the Rangers scored just twice today to drop road trip finale

Fresh off a series win in Houston, the Rangers went to St. Petersburg to play a bad Tampa Bay team only to drop the series against the Rays with a loss in the rubber match today.

It feels like a pretty disappointing way to end a road trip that featured a nice comeback victory, a near perfect game, and the first appearance of half price pizza on the year. You generally shouldn’t complain about a .500 road trip but it feels like it should have been better especially with Cole Hamels on the mound today facing off against whatever a Jake Faria is.

I’d give some effort in providing details about the game and Hamels’ erratic outing but, much like the Rangers during a noon getaway game, I’m not really into it.

Player of the Game: Shin-Soo Choo is red hot right now as he hit another home run for his fifth of the season. Choo’s home run was a solo shot and the only run the Rangers scored until one pitch before the final out of the game.

Up Next: The Rangers have tomorrow off before facing the Seattle Mariners for the first time this season back home beginning Friday. Mike Minor will make the start for Texas in the opener against King Felix Hernandez. First pitch from Arlington is scheduled for 7:05 pm CT.
