8-16 - Rangers can’t find the win column, lose opener to A’s 9-4

Can you believe this game was tied 3-3 going to the ninth inning?

MLB: Oakland Athletics at Texas Rangers Ray Carlin-USA TODAY Sports

*falls to knees* *shakes fist angrily at sky* “TREVOR CAHILLLLLLLLLlllllllllllllll!” *collapses from exhaustion* *weeps openly forever*

Player of the Game: Seeing Jonathan Lucroy reminded me of how unfun it was watching him play last season which made it extra fun to watch Robinson Chirinos hit a game-tying, two-run dong against Lucroy’s new team.

Alas, the Rangers didn’t score again until the game was out of reach and the A’s won by a billion runs anyway but it’s nice to have a catcher who doesn’t makes you question if baseball is a good sport/use of your free time. (Besides, you don’t need a catcher to tell you that, just watch the ninth inning of this game.)

Up Next: The second game of this series sees Cole Hamels take the bump against RHP Andrew Triggs of Oakland. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm CT.
