2018 MLB Mock Draft: Jim Callis’s latest mock draft is out, for those of you keeping up on MLB draft rumors, and Callis has the Rangers going with Florida righthanded high school pitcher Carter Stewart at #15. We did a write-up on Stewart, a big, hard-throwing righty with a big time curveball, a couple of weeks ago.
Callis says Stewart shouldn’t drop that far given his stuff, but the league is leery of prep righthanders, so he could be an option. Callis also has Texas high school righty Grayson Rodriguez, thought to be a Ranger target, going off the board at #10 to the Pirates, while Jarred Kelenic, a high school hitter out of Wisconsin who has been linked to Texas, and who I’d like to see them get at #15, going off the board at #12 to Toronto.
The draft is still ten days away, and there will be more mock drafts, rumors and updates between now and then, but Stewart is someone who would seem to make sense for Texas if he’s there at #15, and if you have the stomach for the risks associated with prep pitchers.
