Catcher Cameron Rupp has exercised an out clause in his contract and opted for free agency, per the beat guys. Rupp signed a minor league deal with the Rangers after being released by the Philadelphia Phillies this spring.
Rupp, 29, is a Texas native who was drafted out of UT-Austin, and with the Rangers backup catching situation in flux, Texas added him as a potential depth option. He has hit .274/.346/.540 for Round Rock, though it appears concerns about his defense have led the Rangers to not add him to the big league team as a backup to Robinson Chirinos.
