2018 MLB Mock Draft: With rumors swirling and the MLB draft just three days away, Fangraphs has what they indicate will likely be the final version of their mock draft out. With the Texas Rangers’ pick at #15, the Fangraphs folks have the Rangers selecting Florida high school righthander Carter Stewart.
Stewart, a 6’6”, 200 lb. righthander, was also mocked to Texas by Jonathan Mayo in his most recent mock draft. You can see the write-up that we did of Stewart a few weeks ago here. In a nutshell, he’s big, he throws really hard, and he has a big-time curveball. Keith Law has him as #2 in his rankings, and he had been expected to go in the top 10 earlier this year, but a combination of factors, including a general leeriness about righthanded high school pitchers, could see him drop to Texas.
If Stewart were to fall to Texas, he would be a terrific addition to their group of young arms, and could potentially sneak into the back end of top 100 prospect lists (Fangraphs his him at #106 on their prospect rankings which includes draft-eligible players as well as minor league prospects).
