24-36 - Colon collapses in 6-0 loss against Angels

The Rangers were held scoreless in the series opener from Anaheim

MLB: Texas Rangers at Los Angeles Angels Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

The Rangers sure looked like a team playing in the final leg of a twenty game stretch tonight.

Bartolo Colon is a marvel but his margin for error is admittedly razor thin. Colon didn’t have his plus, plus command tonight and the Angels capitalized early for a pair of runs in each of the first three innings.

At that point, trailing 6-0, the Rangers at the plate just kind of sleep-walked through the last two-thirds of the game and the Angels were happy to join them for nap time and an easy win.

Player of the Game: The lineup produced zero runs with catcher Carlos Perez leading the way in hits with two so, yeah...let’s go with Jesse Chavez who relieved Colon after his brutal three innings and held the Angels off the board for the final five innings while allowing just three hits, one walk, and striking out four.

Chavez is well on his way to earning the 2018 Scott Baker Mopup Man of the Year award.

Up Next: Cole Hamels makes the start on Saturday night opposite RHP Garrett Richards of Anaheim. First pitch from the Big A is scheduled for an hour earlier at 8:07 pm CT.
