Texas Rangers transactions: Doug Fister is on the 10 day disabled list, and Hanser Alberto has been recalled to take his place on the active roster, according to John Blake on Twitter. Fister left his start on Friday after one pitch in the sixth inning with a sore knee.
The Rangers have two off days this coming week — one tomorrow and one on Thursday -- so the team could, if they wanted, push the spot where Fister would normally start back until June 19. If the Rangers stayed in their normal rotation, Fister’s spot in the rotation would be due up on Friday, June 15. Austin Bibens-Dirkx is seen as the most likely candidate to be called up to make a spot start in Fister’s place, should a move be necessary.
Meanwhile, Alberto gives the Rangers an extra bench player, which is useful right now given how limited Adrian Beltre is. Beltre pinch hit last night in the ninth inning, but if he had gotten on base, the Rangers’ only option to pinch run for him would have been backup catcher Carlos Perez, unless they wanted to go with a pitcher. Alberto gives the Rangers a little more flexibility and depth among their infielders for the time being.
