Robinson Chirinos and Matt Kemp were ejected after a home plate collision led to the benches clearing in tonight’s game between the Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The incident occurred with two outs in the bottom of the third, with the Dodgers up 2-0. Matt Kemp attempted to score from second on a Kike Hernandez single to right field. Nomar Mazara made a strong throw home in plenty of time to get Kemp, but it pulled Chirinos into the third base line. Chirinos attempted to tag Kemp, who opted to lower his shoulder and attempt to blow up Chirinos at the plate.
Both players went down, Chirinos was unhappy, there was some jostling as they got up, and then Chirinos pushed Kemp. Kemp started to come after Chirinos, the benches clear, everyone milled around, and the two antagonists were ejected.
Just a little drama with your baseball on this Wednesday night.
