Texas Rangers Who’s Hot? Who’s Not? Week 11

Adrian Beltre is really the greatest human

MLB: Texas Rangers at Los Angeles Dodgers Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to a new weekly series, as we’ll take a look at a few Rangers who are on heaters and more who are ice cold in something we’ll call “Who’s Hot? Who’s Not?”

The last week of Rangers baseball has been rough. They’re on a six-game skid, including a late-night, extra-inning loss on Wednesday night that came as a result of an error. Hey, at least we got a bit of a brawl! I guess.

Who’s Hot?

Adrian Beltre Since coming off the disabled list for the second time this year, the ageless wonder/everyone with a beating heart’s favorite Ranger is on a tear. In his last six games, Beltre is hitting .450 with a 1.000 OPS. He also moved past Ichiro on Wednesday night to become the all-time hits leader among foreign-born players in MLB history.

Shin-Soo Choo — Another veteran comes in at the No. 2 spot here, as Choo has continued to have a fantastic season and perhaps play his way into enticing a team to take him at the deadline and pay some of his salary. Choo is hitting .391 with a 1.244 OPS in his last six games with two long balls and a team-high four RBIs in that stretch.

Delino DeShields I really wanted to stick Jake Diekman (five Ks in last three scoreless innings of work) here, but after pooping on DeShields the last few weeks, he’s earned his spot here. The center fielder moved back up in the order to No. 2 after briefly dropping to No. 8 and has responded by hitting .353 with a .500 on-base percentage in his last five games.

Who’s Not?

Joey Gallo In 19 at-bats over his last six games, Gallo has struck out 12 times. That’s all you need to see here.

Bartolo Colon The fun story of the Summer of Big Sexy is starting to turn sour. On Tuesday, it got really ugly. Colon gave up eight runs on nine hits (three homers) in 3 13 innings in a 12-5 loss to the Dodgers, causing me to finally drop him from my fantasy team.
