Texas Rangers catcher Carlos Perez left today’s game in the second inning with a sprained ankle suffered in a play at the plate. Jose Trevino, called up today from Frisco, replaced him, making his major league debut.
Trevino was only up today because Robinson Chirinos is serving a one game suspension for his altercation with Matt Kemp on Wednesday. Trevino was expected to be up for one game, then return to Frisco, with a pitcher most likely being called up on Saturday to take his place on the roster. With Perez having a sprained ankle, however, the Rangers would seem likely to put Perez on the d.l. instead, meaning Trevino will get to spend a little longer than expected in the big leagues.
