2018 MLB Draft: Baseball America’s final mock draft has dropped, as MLB draft rumors get hot and heavy in anticipation of tonight’s first round. The Texas Rangers first pick is at #15, and Baseball America’s mock draft has the Rangers selecting high school outfielder Jordyn Adams out of North Carolina.
This is the third out of four mock drafts that have come out today that have Adams going to the Rangers — Keith Law also mocks Adams to the Rangers, as does Jim Callis of MLB Pipeline.
Baseball America’s most recent mock draft prior to this one had the Rangers taking Tennessee high school lefthander Ryan Weathers at #15, so this is a shift. BA has Weathers going to the Orioles at #11, instead.
As BA notes in their writeup, and as we noted in our writeup for Adams, he is a very “Rangery” pick, as a high-ceiling athlete with a lot of tools, but who is very raw. He’s committed to play football and baseball at the University of North Carolina, where his dad is a coach on the football team, but if the Rangers are picking him at #15, they’re presumably confident he will sign.
UPDATE — BA’s 5 p.m. Central update still has Adams going to Texas.
