Day two of the 2018 MLB Draft is today, and will encompass rounds three through ten. The Rangers have picks in each of those rounds.
Something to be aware of is that the MLB draft bonus pool rules are such that your pool is based on your first ten rounds, and anyone you sign in rounds 11 or later counts against your bonus pool only to the extent that player’s bonus exceeds $125,000. As a result, teams have started using picks in the latter part of the first ten rounds to select players who will sign for well below slot, allowing the teams to bank that extra pool money and apply it to other players in the draft.
So if the Rangers select an obscure college senior in the sixth round, that’s probably an indication that they will be using the rest of their picks from today on “signability” guys.
Anyway...talk about today’s draft action here.
