27-39 - Choo can’t do it alone as Rangers lose to Astros 7-3

Despite another nice night at the plate from Shin-Soo Choo, the Rangers couldn’t break through against Houston

MLB: Houston Astros at Texas Rangers Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Justin Verlander was teetering edge of good tonight and if the Rangers were trying to shove him over to the side of not good, they failed.

It probably doesn’t matter much anyway because the Rangers allowed seven Astros runs and even a not as good version of Verlander would have probably kept these Rangers at bay enough to allow Houston to wiggle out with a win.

Doug Fister was responsible for allowing five of those runs in five innings before exiting with knee pain and then Matt Bush came in and made this one a no-doubter by allowing a two-run home run to Jose Altuve.

I have grown concerned that perhaps the Silver Boot is slipping out of reach for the Texas Rangers in 2018.

Player of the Game: Another game, another outstanding Shin-Soo Choo. No, Choo didn’t walk to lead off the game like he had over the first three games of this homestand. Instead, Choo homered and then saved his walk for his second at-bats.

A bunt single to piss off Verlander followed in the sixth as Choo reached three more times while extending his on base streak to 24 games.

Up Next: The Rangers and Astros play once again with Mike Minor set to face off against RHP Charlie Morton. Saturday night’s game will be on FOX Sports 1 so the first pitch is scheduled for a little earlier at 6:15 pm CT. Good luck, left fielders.
