In his return to Texas, Yovani Gallardo had been pitching well and even had a remarkable 3-0 record coming into tonight’s game. And while Gallardo pitching well against anyone in 2018 is a blessing, those wins came against the likes of Minnesota, Detroit, and the White Sox.
Tonight, however, Gallardo faced arguably the best offense in baseball and it went about as well as expected.
The Red Sox put up a five spot in the bottom of the third inning and, though the Rangers eventually scored four runs themselves, the game never really felt close as Boston kept padding their lead throughout the night and eventually settled in for a 8-4 win.
But Shin-Soo Choo reached base! That’s way more important than a win! 48!
Player of the Game: Rougned Odor hit a solo dong up in the vicinity of Ted Williams country deep in right and then he added a single, reached via a HBP, and finished the night going 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Rougie’s OPS is now over .700.
Up Next: The Rangers will try to avoid getting swept by the Red Sox but in doing so, they’ll have to beat Chris Sale. Bartolo Colon makes the start for Texas once again seeking the Latin wins crown. First pitch from Fenway is scheduled for 6:10 pm CT.
