Baseball Prospectus top 50 prospect list: Texas Rangers place two

The Rangers have a pair of prospects in the Baseball Prospectus midseason top 50 prospect list

The Baseball Prospectus top 50 prospect list for mid-season 2018 is out, and the Texas Rangers have placed a pair of prospects on the list. Center fielder Leody Taveras and left fielder/DH Willie Calhoun both made the cut.

Taveras, a switch hitting 19 year old currently toiling at high-A Down East, is at #36 on the list, with BP praising his glove in center field, though noting concerns about his lack of power thusfar. Calhoun, a 23 year old lefthanded hitter, should be a DH, the BP folks note, but they think his bat can make him a solid player even if he is limited to DH.

Both Taveras and Calhoun have not had the greatest statistical seasons this year, but to the extent they’ve struggled, it hasn’t been enough to drop them from the top 50.

There are no former Ranger prospects on the list, though interestingly, the top two players on the list are the sons of former Rangers.
