Texas Rangers transactions: Alex Claudio, lefthanded relief pitcher for the Texas Rangers, is going on the 10 day disabled list with what has been described as a mild ankle sprain, the team announced today. Martin Perez has been activated from the 60 day disabled list and takes Claudio’s place on the 25 man roster. The Rangers had a 40 man roster spot open for Perez due to having designated Austin Jackson for assignment on Wednesday. Jackson, the team also announced, has been released.
Claudio apparently hurt himself in his outing on Tuesday. He is eligible to return on July 21, which means that, if he misses the minimum amount of time, he will only miss three games — today, tomorrow and July 20 — due to the All Star Break.
In the very bad news category, Kyle Cody will undergo Tommy John surgery on Thursday. The righthander had missed the first part of the year with elbow issues, but had appeared to have overcome them and had pitched in a pair of games for the Rangers’ AZL Rookie League team. Cody, who was considered one of the Rangers’ top pitching prospects coming into the season, will be out now until 2020.
