The MLB Futures Game has gone from a niche exhibition that you used to be able to catch on tape delay or read about later once you got bored of waiting for baseball to return during the All-Star break to an anticipated live broadcast that ushers in the break with a showcase of the top prospects in baseball.
In this year’s edition, for the Rangers, near-consensus No. 1 prospect Leody Taveras will come off the bench for the World team hopefully at some point, while CD Pelham is in the bullpen for the US team as one of two lefty relief options.
Perhaps one of the two Rangers representatives will have a day like Joey Gallo back in 2014 when Gallo hit one out of Target Field and won the MVP award or like World team Jurickson Profar in 2012 when he hit a home run at Kauffman Stadium and rounded the bases smiling at US team’s Mike Olt.
The game is on MLB Network and streaming on MLB.com. WARNING: Harold Reynolds is involved.
