Nomar Mazara to the disabled list, Willie Calhoun recalled

Willie Calhoun has been called up to replace the injured Nomar Mazara

MLB: Texas Rangers at Minnesota Twins Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

Texas Rangers transactions: The Texas Rangers have placed outfielder Nomar Mazara on the 10 day disabled list with a sprained right thumb, retroactive to July 17. To replace him on the active roster, the Rangers have recalled Willie Calhoun from AAA Round Rock.

As we discussed earlier this afternoon, Calhoun sent out a tweet indicating that he was headed to Dallas, which was promptly deleted, so we knew he was being promoted, with the only question being what the corresponding move would be. Calhoun will presumably be playing regularly in left field and at the DH spot while Mazara is out, and we shall have to wait to find out how long he will be on the shelf.

Interestingly, the Rangers have not announced a move to fill the roster spot vacated by the trade of Jesse Chavez. Presumably, Alex Claudio will be activated from the disabled list tomorrow to fill that spot.
